Koeschi - New Build Home in the Woods
Koeschi was built between 2009-2011 as a home for ourselves on the the last of three sites which had originally been granted permissions in the late 1980s. With some limited assistance from Martin, Joshua created this building design, his first, at the age of 19 prior to embarking on his architectural career at the world-renowned Architectural Association in London three years later. The building was executed over a three-year period by the family and illustrates the tenacity and innovation within the family practice.
A combination of simplicity, elegance and flair sets this building apart. Utilising local materials from the site from timber species such as larch, hemlock, Douglas Fir, spruce cherry, ash, oak and maple, the interior reflects a strong organic theme. Even finishing materials based on Gypsum and Clay add to the honesty of the concept and enhance the living environment. Now an iconic building across the Internet, Koeschi has widespread appeal and in 2014 one the National selfbuild Award run by build it magazine.
